why didn’t they let him finish his outs…. I know this is a bit late but I was curious… he still had 2 or 3 outs left and he had broken the record why not let him finish those 2 or 3 outs to set the new standard/record

It was amazing but, like you I wonder why he did not finish all his outs. I know he won and it was special but he could have helped give more money to charity hitting a few more balls. i would have liked to see him set a new standard/record and I guess he was tired out and needed rest.

1.The derby was long enough, why carry it on further?
2.If he already had broken the record, game over!
3.Like in an extra inning game, when the home team scores the winning run the game is over even if there are only 0, 1 or 2 outs.

He was tired of hitting bombs the whole night so there was no real point, if he pushed himself too hard he could’ve exhausted himself.

I agree.but he won i think in a near future we will find out if he really has that kind of power to win the derby.Or we might be another barry bonds with illegal stuff

It was like a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning. The game was already won, why extend it further?

It’s like the home team batting in the bottom of the ninth with the lead. Why?

@ Yahoo: why did u post my question under "wrestling" ??

I would say he’s a borderline hall of famer. I don’t see him getting in on the 1st ballot. He might be a hall of famer, but he’s borderline.

No. He’s not pretty and he’s a Yankee. The ruling idea is that a Yankee isn’t as good as he seems because he plays for the Yankees. I know, that’s idiotic, but that’s how the writers think. 5 or 6 seasons with 90 + RBIs as a catcher along with his long career ought to make him a Hall of Famer, but he’s just not glamorous enough for the writers.

I think he will because he is going to be the best player the year he comes up for the ballot (which if my math is right should be 2016). Not any other great players retired this year so I think he has a good shot.

He might make the Yankees Hall of Fame. But he’s not going to make the Cooperstown Hall of Fame.

Posada is better as! He will make the HOF!
Go Yanks!

40/60 at best

I love the boston red sox but i dont know anything aboutthem how can i learn all the stats and past accomplishements and other stuff so i can become a true fan

I began to learn stats and comparisons with baseball cards. I read every baseball book I could find and subscribed to Baseball Digest, which, while juvenile, is still the only sports or baseball publication that deals strictly with baseball.
Since then some dubious stats have become all that, but, really aren’t all that necessary.
Oh, and I was a kid when I did all that, so don’t be embarrassed if you’re not a kid. It’s still a great way to start letting stats become part of your brain.

look them up online.Knowing stats and accomplishments doesn’t make you a true fan.

How would you explain the World Series drought of the Chicago Cubs?

1. Curse of the goat
2. Curse of Steve

though I find those both blessings personally

It’s a combination of many things that focus mainly on the ownership and management of the Cubs over the years.

Signing ineffective players since the last WS appearance in 1945, can be a coincidence to a certain degree.Hiring managers who can’t motivate the team’s talent is a factor.Playing only home day games until lights were installed in Aug. 1988 affected players routines.Recent long term contracts have hampered payroll and signing of better free agents. While some critics use curses as a reason, that excuse is just a way to sweep the ownership problems under the rug.

It’s difficult to explain the major collapses for not getting into the World Series.
1984 – 1 game away in playoffs
2003 – 5 outs away from World Series
But in both of those cases, the players failed to execute – which is probably the acceptable answer to the question..

That ugly, old, ivy colored mess they play in has always been their albatross.

Their glory days all happened before the moved in to what is now Wrigley field.

Maybe Epstein can convince people to tear it down and build a modern, up to date, state of the art baseball park. Don’t hold your breath.

Upper management. I live in Illinois. The Cubs are run just as poorly as the state is, and just as corruptly.

Only reason it’s still going is that double play ball that Alex Gonzalez booted.

They haven’t won.

Alex Gonzolez and Kerry Wood had more to do with the 2003 collapse than Bartman.

Simple: The Cubs haven’t won the World Series since 1908. That’s why they have a drought.

sad and pathetic but they havent had the best teams or coaches. The best word to describe them is CHOKE!

Curses may be for real.

They suck.

If you are going to trade Montero at least get a proven superstar for him because he was the #1 prospect in baseball. Not some big/fat/mediocre pitcher..
How stupid are the Yanks?
A-rod/Jeter/Tex all suck in the playoffs so they need all the offense they can get but they unload the young slugger Montero..

I really hope Montero turns out the be the next Pujols and that Pineda doesn’t live up to his expectations.Would love to see this trade backfire on the Stanks

First of all, Montero is NEVER going to be Albert Pujols…while he will likely be an All-Star in the near future, he won’t be the best hitter in baseball at any point.Comparing him to someone as incredible as Pujols is ridiculous.

Secondly, Pineda is an unbelievably talented pitcher.I’ve seen him play a few times, and I was impressed with him, especially for his age.How can you possibly say that you need another bat rather than a front of the rotation type of pitcher?Pineda is going to be an ace in only a couple seasons.

Pineda is the best you were gonna get.You should be happy.I know that I would be licking my chops at the thought of having him in my team’s rotation.

"Yankees trade the next Albert Pujols." He won’t be the next Pujols. That title would be going to a Bryce Harper or Mike Stanton. And would you rather have AJ Burnett in the rotation, who would give up 5 runs a game, or would you rather have a young starter, that will improve as he gets older? Give Pineda a chance. He will be a better starter than AJ. And we don’t have to hear about AJ Burnett give up 5 or more runs in 5 or less innings here on yahoo answers anymore(hopefully).

How can you declare that a prospect is the next Albert Pujols? That is so far fetched that it isn’t even funny. This is about as stupid as the posts Eric makes. Michael Pineda is better than Phil Hughes, that’s for sure. Why do Yankees fans overhype the few prospects they do grow and then whine when they trade those prospects? How the hell do you know what Montero was going to do? He really didn’t have a position on the Yankees anyways.

The Yankees already have a great batting lineup, but a sucky rotation before this. This trade and signing Kuroda made it so that they have good pitching. This makes them the favorites imo.

And besides, in 7 years or so they’ll just sign him as a free agent when he’s in his prime.

Hes not fat. Pineda’s great. besides, you could have gotten Trevor Cahill for the next yankee great but Billy Beane is missing a few chromozones. But its a bad deal on your part, but it’s what the stienbrenners are all about. Jeter would be on the pirates if George hadn’t been on suspended.

Did you even watch the season last year?Do you even know anything about Pineda?Dude is beast power pitcher,he exactly what they’ve been asking from Burnett only Pineda will get it done.Just because he came from the Mariners doesn’t take away from his status.

Even with Posada retiring, the Yankees have to other catchers in Martin and Cervelli.Traded what you have an abundance of (catching) for what you need (pitching).Teams do it all the time.

Michael Pineda is not fat and has a bright future ahead of him.

Pujols went to the reds i think for 10years getting paid 250,000,000

for a 14 year old girl who hasnt played anything except t-ball when they were younger, which divison should they try out for;girls, instructional, jr,juniors, major, minors.

Are you signing up for Little League? If so, then girls your age are only eligible to play Juniors.
Here are the age groups for Little League:
minors 8-10 yr olds
majors 10-12 yr olds
juniors 13-14 yr olds
(Instructional is probably for players younger than minors)

In Little League, they may hold a "tryout" – but ALL girls who sign up get on a team and all girls get to play. The "tryouts" are just used to rank the girls so they can make even teams. You can ask at registration about this for your league.

And remember, LL Juniors is a great place to get back into softball!!My wife and I coach Little League, and every year in Juniors there is a good mix of girls who have never played, and girls who have played. Our Juniors teams usually have around 3 or 4 girls out of 12 who never played, and another two or three who have only played for a year or two.Little League is a great place to learn, too!It is more of a recreational level of softball, not like Club softball.Club ball is much more competitive, and usually made up only of girls who have played for years and tried out to make the team.

So Good Luck, and Have Fun!!

Brian Cashman traded Jesus Montero for an untested pitcher (Michael Pineda) who has never been under the spotlight and pressure of New York… Jesus Montero was a great hitter last year, in his rookie year he hit over .300. I thought it couldn’t get worse with Cashman, but it did.

Would you rather have Pineda, or would you rather have AJ Burnett who had an era over 5 the past 2 years? Pineda had an era under 2 for most of the season, then he started getting fatigued, and didn’t do so good. As he gets older, he will build up strength, and gain better control of his pitches. And maybe CC could teach him a few things. The Yankees have a great offense, which they led the AL in homers last year. Yankee fans just have to hope that Pineda and Kuroda can pitch in the tough AL East.

Most scouts say the Yankees made an excellent trade. They probably made a very good trade for several reasons.

First, it is easier to find hitting than it is to find pitching. Montero has potential, but he may not be a catcher. He will probably be a DH, maybe a first baseman. The Yanks did not need either. Pineda was the rookie of the year. He struck out 173 batters last year. Also, Jose Campos, the other pitcher the Yankees received can throw 98 mph and would have been a tp 10 pick if he came out this year.

Second, The Yankees have catchers in their system. Gary Sanchez, Austin Romine, Russell Martin and Francisco Cervelli can all catch.

Third, A-Rod and Jeter can play DH. They are getting older and can take a break from playing the field.

Good deal for the Yanks. I understand that they gave up a good prospect in Montero, but building their rotation meant more. They can always use free agency to get hitters. Getting good starters is much more difficult. At first, I was suprised at this deal, but I think now that it was a good deal for the yanks.

well from what i seen pineda is a decent pitcher and yankees need some help in the rotation
they also added kuroda and i believe both of them can’t be worse then AJ can they?

Montero had a lot of upside but i don’t see him being used with the yankees at this time
i would have kept him but they probably will end up putting somebody like a rod or jeter at DH
unless they get Pena or somebody else thats rumored

I’d have signed Oswalt along with Kuroda and not traded Montero for Pineda. The effect on the rotation wouldn’t have been that much less and they’d still have him.Jeter and A-Rod aren’t getting any younger. Offensively, Montero could have made up for any diminishing returns seen from the older guys.

Cashman (obviously) likes Pineda. We’ll have to see through the years how he turns out.

I can see why Cashman did it, but i didn’t like it. It seems as if more than likely Montero wasn’t going to get enough starts as a catcher for it not to impede his growth as a player. The Yanks are pretty set at catcher, so having the kid just sit around, or keep bouncing up and down between the Yanks and AAA didn’t make sense. But if he was going to give up Montero then AJ should have been a part of the deal! If Cash woul’ve offered to pay maybe half or a little bit more of AJ’s contract, i’m sure the Mariners would’ve bit.

How can you say Pineda ‘s untested but not Montero?Pineda pitched in 28 games last year, Montero only played in 18.Because he played on the West coast the Yankee fans didn’t even know he existed.

I think the trade will work out fine and if not then the Yankees can always overpay for Montero and sign him back as a free agent later.

I know. i was wondering the same thing. Montero has always been major league ready and last year we saw how good he was when he was called up. I don’t get it how they gave away their best prospect and one of the best hitting catchers in all of baseball away for an unproven starter. cashman did not need to get that pitcher.

I think the Yankees lost on the trade but the M’s do get a bat they really need.

It’s too tough to pass up a promising young pitcher. Cashman probably thought that Montero’s future was as a hitter and not a catcher. Hitters are a dime a dozen in the league. He could just pick up a Molina to help the pitching staff and add a big ticket DH like Carlos Pena to belt solo shots.

Immensely stupid. Disastrously stupid!

The Yankees, whom have finished in first place 11 of the past 14 seasons, might finish in only first place in 2012. In fact, they certainly will finish no higher than first place. This is completely unacceptable. Yankees fans must continue — nay, redouble! — their ongoing calls for Cashman’s head on a silver platter.

An assortment of tasteful silver platters, suitable for any post-execution displaying (formal or unruly mob style), are available at Tiffany & Co. on 5th Avenue at 57th Street: http://www.tiffany.com/Shopping/Category??

Beheading equipment is best left for those earnestly interested in such to research.

The Yankees already have a great batting lineup, but a sucky rotation before this. This trade and signing Kuroda made it so that they have good pitching. This makes them the favorites imo.

I thought it was very dumb, but they do have Russel Martin. And, Pineda is a great young pitcher (key word YOUNG) which is what they need.

You can’t say montero had a good rookie year hitting over .300 cuz he only played for a month and he could win the rookie of the year next year.

Incredibly stupid.Montero’s probably going to be the best hitting catcher in the game in a few years.

Very considering who the Yankees got back.

Very stupid that was the next jorge posada

I agree. Happy red sox fan.
